After a few months here, I was beginning to crave something besides night market food and American fast food chains. One of my coworkers suggested this place which he said was one of his favorite Japanese restaurants in Taipei because he considered it authentic since the owners of the place came from Japan.
This place is very tiny and gets extremely crowded during lunch hours.
Looks Japanese to me, although my recollection of Japan is from watching anime and reading manga.
The prices are start at $90NT ($3USD) for rice dishes and appetizers, $160NT ($5USD) for ramen. They also have lunch specials starting at $210NT ($6USD) which include a bowl of ramen, your choice of an appetizer or a rice bowl and a medium soft drink.
Fried oyster with mayonnaise and cabbage with sweet sauce.
Mmmm ramen...This was actually a lot bigger than I was expecting for the price. The picture speaks for itself.
I thought the ramen was good and then I had this. Words cannot describe how delicious this rice bowl is. White rice, grilled chicken, green onions, a fried egg and topped off with nori.
I can't recommend this place enough. If you ever crave Japanese food in Taipei, this is the place to go. The food is excellent and the price is cheaper than many of the fast food Japanese restaurants in the SOGO shopping centers. Just remember that the place does gets extremely crowded during lunch time lunch time because of the specials.
Random Pic: This is Taipei Stadium, nothing much usually happens here but it recently hosted some events for the 2009 Taipei Deaflympics which I completely failed to attend.
